Surrey Artists Open
Studios event starts 7 - 22 June 2008: 25 artists in 13 studios in

A taster exhibition
featuring sample pieces by 19 artists from Reigate & Banstead and

fascinating Watts Gallery in Compton which houses the studio collection
of the famous Victorian painter and sculptor G F Watts – nicknamed
England’s Michelangelo: Also collected works by his contemporaries
Burne-Jones, Leighton, Sargent and Morris, and pottery by Mary Watts.
Don’t miss the stunning circular celtic/art nouveau chapel she had built

Another intriguing place
to visit is the Fire and Iron Gallery at Rowhurst Forge, Oxshott Road
Leatherhead Tel: 01372 386453. Open all year round Mon - Sat 10.00am –

Here you can see an
incredible collection of work by metal artists, from delicate jewellery
to life size steel animals and ornate beds, all housed in the
outbuildings of a beautiful 1450’s farmhouse.
Hundreds of unique
metalworks plus special exhibitions to complement the permanent
displays: also the occasional Blacksmithing demonstrations in the
purpose built arena (check beforehand for details)

Grace Barrand in Nutfield
has lovely crafts & gifts, then exciting contemporary artists and makers
exhibiting in the Gallery from January 19th.
The Studio Art House in
Leatherhead is showing paintings, drawings, watercolours and prints by
British contemporary artists: Also a range of interesting ceramics. Both
galleries offer Art, Craft and painting workshops – maybe an original
idea for a gift to an artistic loved one.
